Poor Raindance. Since getting acquired by West Corporation and folded into the set of web conferencing products pushed by InterCall, the product has pretty much dropped off the map. I haven't seen a press release, advertisement, or promotional campaign mentioning it since last Spring when the acquisition occurred. When I look at InterCall's list of web conferencing alternatives, I see seven options listed, none of which are Raindance. All you see are solutions based on Microsoft Live Meeting, WebEx, and their own Mshow.
This week I called the sales number listed on the Raindance website. I got through to a sales representative from InterCall. I said that I was working with a client that had used Raindance Seminar Edition in the past and wanted to continue with it for another few webinars, so I needed some current pricing. The rep tried very hard to steer me to another solution. I pointed out that the alternate suggestion didn't have a specific feature my client needed. Eventually I was able to prevail and get a price quote, but I needed to be insistent.
It seems clear that InterCall's use of Raindance has primarily been a matter of buying customers and eliminating a competitor, rather than a desire to grow its business. Oh well... it was nice while it lasted.
