iLinc’s latest customer newsletter pre-announced two important items coming up in February.
The first is their annual user conference (iConnect), now being held purely as a one-day virtual event. That should help cut down on costs, environmental impact, lost work time, and travel annoyances (and boy was I annoyed when I got the full crotch rubdown on my last trip through Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport!). The date will be Wednesday, February 23 and registration details are not public yet.
The second announcement is that iLinc Version 11 is forecast for availability on February 19. This upgrade release includes a new drag and drop interface that lets viewers customize where different information panels appear. It also allows real-time captioning to show the text of a vocal presentation on the screen below the slides or video. Interestingly, iLinc plans to allow multiple caption streams that users can select from. So a webinar host could deliver a presentation in English, but show translated captions in Spanish, French, and German… letting audience members choose which one they want to see. Very nice! There are some enhancements to live video performance and configuration of multiple video windows. And hosts can now record their meeting as a stand-alone Flash .flv file for easier re-hosting or distribution.
It should be a good month for them. I’ll keep you abreast of more details as I discover them.
