Earlier this year I wrote a post dismissing the site ReviewAuthority.com and their listing of the 10 Best Web Conferencing Firms. Today I just saw a press release announcing a similar listing by the website Top10InAction.com.
Following the link in the press release revealed the Top10InAction "Best Web Conference Services." At least they didn't include a defunct company like the other listing had. But they do have some problems with proper branding and capitalization of the products they review. They also shift rather loosely between identifying product names and company names.
Honestly, I didn't spend much time digging in to their facts and figures. It's all nonsense. I noticed that they had GoToMeeting listed at a price of $39/month for a capacity of 500 participants. Actually, the GoToMeeting Pro+ plan allows up to 100 attendees at $56 or $69 per month, depending on whether you prepay at an annual rate.
Scrolling down the page revealed some rather suspect translation to English in the following form:
Given that, I was not surprised to see that the company's contact address was in Shanghai, China. Their website was registered in May of this year, and they have been busy. This week alone they put out press releases announcing new Top 10 lists for Best Web Conference Providers, Best Smartphones, Best Back to School Deals, and Best Serum.
I can't think of any reason not to close with the same statement I wrote the last time I found this kind of superficial listing without proper evaluation of complex technologies:
Pshaw and balderdash. It only bothers me that some people might not instantly recognize this ranking inanity for the obvious paid marketing gimmick it is. Nothing to see here… Move along, please.
